Protecting Your Ink:

Protecting Your Ink: Tattoo Care in the Sun

At Bone & Blossom Tattoo Studio, we believe your tattoo is more than just ink on skin—it's a story, a memory, and a piece of art that you carry with you. As the summer sun starts to blaze, it's crucial to take special care of your tattoo to keep it vibrant, healthy, and stunning. Here's your go-to guide for protecting your ink and keeping it in peak condition during those hot, sunny days.

Stay Shaded

Direct exposure to the sun can cause your tattooed skin to heat up and become raised, leading to discomfort and irritation. Worse still, UV rays can break down the ink pigments, causing your tattoo to fade and lose vibrancy. If you're planning a day at the beach or an outdoor event, make sure to wear clothing that covers your tattoo or seek shade when you can.

Apply Sunscreen Wisely

For tattoos that are already healed, sunscreen is your best friend. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and make sure it doesn't contain any harsh chemicals or fragrances that could irritate your skin. Apply it liberally over your tattoo and reapply every two hours or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating.

Hydrate Inside and Out

Keeping your skin hydrated is key to maintaining a healthy tattoo. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin nourished from the inside. On the outside, use a tattoo-friendly moisturizer to keep your tattoo looking fresh and prevent it from drying out.

Avoid Chlorine and Saltwater

Chlorine from swimming pools and saltwater from the ocean can be harsh on tattoos, especially if they're new. If you do take a dip, be sure to rinse off immediately afterward and reapply moisturizer and sunscreen to keep your tattoo in top shape.

Avoid Scratching or Picking

We know it's tempting, but don't scratch or pick at your tattoo, even if it itches or peels. This can damage the ink and lead to infection. Instead, try tapping or gently patting the area to relieve the itch.

By following these tips, you'll ensure that your tattoo stays vibrant and beautiful all summer long. At Bone & Blossom, we're here to help you make the most of your ink. If you have any questions or need more advice on tattoo care, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're always happy to help!
