There’s something I’ve been feeling for a while now—and if you’re a tattoo artist, you probably get it. When your creativity becomes your job, it can start to feel… contained. You’re still creating every day. You’re still doing meaningful work. But it’s all within the structure of appointments, client expectations, and finished pieces that live on skin. And that’s exactly why we started working on the Bone & Blossom zine.

One of the things I never wanted Bone & Blossom to become was closed off. Tattooing already has enough gatekeeping in it. So when artists reach out about guest spots, I don’t just look at it as filling a chair—I look at it as an opportunity to bring something new into the space. Guest artists shift the energy of a studio in the best way. They bring different perspectives, different techniques, and different life experiences—and that benefits everyone.

Every tattoo artist develops a unique rhythm, style, and toolkit. While your artistry is the foundation, your equipment is what brings it to life. The right needles and machines can improve precision, reduce fatigue, and help your tattoos heal beautifully. At Bone & Blossom Tattoo Studio, a female-owned inclusive tattoo shop in Lombard, IL, we believe in educating both new and seasoned artists on choosing the tools that match their creative vision.

The Ripple Affect is a community committed to mentorship, education, and systemic change in the tattoo industry. This project is one of the first steps in identifying what’s missing from client education and what tattooers need to thrive in a more equitable work environment.
