The Bone & Blossom Zine: Creating Beyond Tattooing & Why It Matters

There’s something I’ve been feeling for a while now—and if you’re a tattoo artist, you probably get it. When your creativity becomes your job, it can start to feel… contained.

You’re still creating every day. You’re still doing meaningful work. But it’s all within the structure of appointments, client expectations, and finished pieces that live on skin.

And that’s exactly why we started working on the Bone & Blossom zine.

Why We Started the Zine

At its core, this project came from a simple idea: Creativity shouldn’t stop at tattooing.

As a Tattoo Studio Lombard IL, we spend so much time focused on:

  • Custom Tattoo Lombard IL designs

  • Client consultations

  • Executing tattoos that will live on someone forever

That’s important work—but it’s not the only kind of work artists need to do.

The zine gives us space to experiment, play and create without pressure. And honestly, that kind of freedom is what keeps artists from burning out.

Creativity as a Form of Healing

This is the part that matters most to me. Creating outside of tattooing feels different. And that kind of creativity is grounding. It’s clarifying. It’s restorative. We talk a lot about tattoos being meaningful for clients—and they are—but the act of creating is just as important for the artist. The zine became a way for us to reconnect with that.

What’s Inside the Bone & Blossom Zine

The zine is a mix of everything we don’t always get to show inside the tattoo process.

That includes:

  • Personal artwork

  • Experimental styles

  • Sketches and ideas that don’t fit into a tattoo

  • Visual concepts that exist just for the sake of existing

You might see elements of:

  • Neo-Traditional Tattoo Lombard IL influence

  • Soft, tonal work inspired by Black and Grey Tattoo Lombard IL

  • Color explorations that connect back to Color Tattoo Lombard IL

But none of it is confined to those categories.

That’s the point.

A Free Takeaway for Our Clients & Community

One of the most important parts of this project is that the zine is meant to be a free, physical object people can take with them.

Not everything needs to be monetized.

We wanted to create something that feels persona;, tangible and gives people a piece of the studio beyond their tattoo

Whether you’re coming in for a Walk In Tattoo Shop Lombard IL visit or a full custom appointment, you’ll be able to take a piece of Bone & Blossom with you—even if it’s not on your skin.

Sharing More Than Just Tattoos

As an Inclusive Tattoo Studio Lombard IL, we’re always thinking about how to make this space feel more open and accessible.

Not everyone connects with tattooing right away—but a lot of people connect with art.

The zine creates another entry point that allows people to engage with what we create, understand our aesthetic and interests and feel connected to the studio without pressure

And for our clients, it gives a deeper look into who we are as artists—not just what we’re hired to do.

This Is Just the Beginning

The zine isn’t a one-time thing. It’s something we want to keep building, evolving, and sharing. Different artists. Different ideas. Different directions. Because the goal isn’t to perfect it. The goal is to keep creating.

If You Stop By the Studio

If you’re coming in for:

  • A Custom Tattoo Lombard IL

  • A spontaneous visit to our Walk In Tattoo Shop Lombard IL

  • Or just to check out the space

Ask about the zine.

Take one with you.

Sit with it for a bit.

Because at the end of the day, this is what Bone & Blossom is really about:

Creating things that connect with people—on skin, on paper, and beyond.

Bone & Blossom Tattoo StudioWhere creativity doesn’t stop at tattooing—it expands, heals, and evolves.
