Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Tattoo Shop Owner

Owning a tattoo studio is a dream come true — but it’s also a daily balancing act. At Bone & Blossom Tattoo Studio, I’m not only an artist but also a business owner, mentor, and community builder. Here’s a look at what really goes into a day in the life of running a tattoo shop in Lombard, IL. A Day in the Life of a Tattoo Shop Owner.

Starting the Day: Coffee & Emails

Before the tattoo machines start buzzing, there’s always behind-the-scenes work to handle. I check emails, respond to booking requests for custom tattoos in Lombard, IL, and review the day’s appointments. Managing the schedule is key — most of our artists work by appointment, though we also offer walk-in tattoos in Lombard, IL for those looking for something more spontaneous.

Supporting the Artists

Our team is the heart of Bone & Blossom. From artists who specialize in fine line tattoos to those who excel at neo-traditional tattoos and American traditional tattoos, each one brings something unique. As shop owner, I make sure they have the supplies they need, that the shop runs smoothly, and that everyone feels supported.

Balancing Family and Business

One thing that makes Bone & Blossom different is our focus on balance. Many of our artists are moms, and as an inclusive tattoo studio, we prioritize work-life harmony. That might mean adjusting seasonal walk-in hours or giving artists flexibility with their schedules. A happy, supported team creates the best experience for clients.

Welcoming Our Clients

Clients come to us for more than just tattoos — they come for connection. Whether someone is stopping in for their first walk-in or returning for their fifth piece, we make sure they feel safe and welcome. As an LGBTQ+ friendly tattoo shop, creating a welcoming tattoo environment is always at the top of my list.

Community Beyond the Studio

Running a shop also means being part of something bigger. We collaborate with other Lombard businesses, take part in community events, and even design our own line of tattoo artist clothing. For me, success isn’t just about the tattoos we create — it’s about the community we build.

Ending the Day

After the last machine is cleaned and the shop is closed, I often reflect on the day. Running Bone & Blossom Tattoo Studio is hard work, but it’s also rewarding. From the art we create to the lives we touch, every day reminds me why I started this journey.
